Oops, it's been a month since my last post. So much happened in the last 4 weeks and it won't all be in this post. This post is a recap of our last two days in Truckee staying at the hut and seeing our favorite Blue Grass band and rock climbing. We left Thursday late morning and got to the hut about 3 hrs later. The was a little bit of snow still on the ground in spots along the road to the hut and the truck couldn't make it. We had to stop so Eric could walk to the hut and get the shovel so we took our time and walked as well. We didn't make it very far b/c we saw a frog and managed to catch it and Josie played with it in the little stream.
At the hut there were a bunch more frogs and a tiny pool that Josie collected the frogs in. She said she was going to take her "babies" home. One she named Freckle the other Dirty and one Clean. She didn't get to take them home. :-)
We drove into Truckee and had dinner at the Cottonwood (great restaurant that used to be a ski resort). Excellent food. The Anderson Family Band has basically become Paige Anderson and the Fearless Kin. Mom and Dad aren't really play although mom Kristi does play a few songs with them. So fun to get caught up with them. We had a leisurely dinner during our 3 hrs there and listened to 2 hrs of music. We left at 9 before they started their third set.
Here's a photo of Eric shoveling the road close to the hut earlier in the day. The other photo is clearing the road that we made it up (barely) earlier but when we got home the tires just spun. Thankfully after Eric's hard work we made it up and we didn't have to walk the rest of the way.
This morning Eric had a fire going for us and made a scrambled egg breakfast . Delicious. Josie wanted to climb on rocks after breakfast.

We packed up the truck and closed up the hut and made our way to the rock for the next adventure. Eric made a harness for Josie and away they went. They did a short practice climb. Josie didn't like the descent but was a trooper.

Gearing up for the real climb. Eric went ahead to lay the route and we followed, tied very close together. It took about 3 hrs to make it to the top with lots of stops to create the next pitch. A couple places Josie was scared and wanted to hold my hand. A couple times I had to lift her up or over something and once I was handing her off to Eric and he couldn't reach her hand so my leg became a bridge for her. At one point Josie and I was sitting on a little ledge waiting for Eric to get to the next place and I asked her if she wanted to do this again some time and she said no. I agreed! :-) This is actually the same place Eric took me early in our courtship about 8 years ago for my first outdoor climb. Can't beat the views!
