Saturday Sushi w/ Shuli & Satoshi

We had a fun evening at our neighbors. They served us Chirashi-zushi (a kind of sushi in a bowl) and Mochi ice cream for dessert. It was delicious. Josie loved the sticky rice and had two cups of yogurt. She loved the ice cream which was a thin rice wrapping with ice cream inside, in the shape of a little ball. Perfect size. Josie had fun exploring and running around their house and performing songs for us. We're thankful for such nice neighbors.

Bye Bye Paci

Thursday 1/12/12 was Josie's first time sleeping without her paci in almost two years. She started the first night in the hospital when she was too noisy and I didn't want to disturb our roommate. She's used it ever since. Her blankie and paci help her fall asleep at nap and night every day. Why I thought she needed to give it up I have no idea. :-) Actually I wanted to have her weaned by the time she's two. It seems like it would just get harder. I don't want it pushing her teeth out any further and hopefully she get better at saying her "s's". I picked this particular time b/c of the holiday weekend and I would be home quite a few days to help her transition. It turns out it took longer than I expected for this transition. I have high expectations for my above average little girl and this taught me to lower my expectations for some things!

Josie packed up all her pacis and put them in the velvet bag. We put them outside by the door and said good bye. We knew the paci fairy was coming that night and the pacis would be gone in the morning. Josie knew the pacis were going to babies who need pacis and since josie is a big girl she doesn't need them anymore. We'd been talking for a couple weeks about this happening. Every night from Thursday to Thursday Josie cried herself to sleep. She skipped 3 or 4 naps and finally took a short 75 min. one at day care on Thursday and a 3-hr nap at home yesterday. The last couple nights her crying has gotten shorter and shorter until last night when she didn't cry at all. This whole time she's only asked for the paci once and right away answered herself saying, "no the pacis are for the babies". Coming down with a cold last Saturday didn't help matters. After lots of Josie tears and lots of mommy (and others') prayers I believe we've finally turned a corner.

Look at this sweet girl sleeping so peacefully with her paci....
Besides her little green blankie and the soft cuddly blanket over her she's snuggling with my baby blanket that my grandma made me. I slept with it every night. I think I took it to college with me but kept it packed away.

The first Friday nap she didn't sleep. I could hear her playing but was surprised to find her baby high chair in her bed with her. It's usually next to her crib and she reached through the slats and somehow managed to pick it up and fling it over the side into her crib. She had taken Charlotte's pjs and tutu off. She has the same pair but was trying to put on Charlotte's little pair of bottoms. She had already managed to put on the tutu which is actually hers that Charlotte was borrowing. Crazy girl. Her hair is frizzy from sleeping in braids.

I put on her own pj's and put Charlotte's back on and all was well once again.

Gaya and Josie bday celebration

Josie and I had a delicious Indian lunch at Lorraine and Gaya's. Lorraine is the best cook and she always prepares Indian food just for me. Josie liked it too especially the puffy Puri's (lightly fried flat bread). Gaya turned 13 this month.

After hanging out in their back yard we walked to Gaya's school about 10 min. away. What a great campus. We visited her locker decorated by her friends for her birthday.

Delicious Cookie Monster cupcake. The 4 of us split it and it was the perfect amount.

Dinner with Uncles and Aunt

We had a fun evening on Saturday with Uncle Bill & Aunt Gaylynne and Uncle Hank. We sure do miss Aunt Mil. Eric cooked up some yummy salmon and we had fun around the table. Unfortunately Josie woke up with a cold and didn't feel that well come evening so wasn't in her usual great mood, poor thing. Gaylynne and Bill brought a cake for dessert and we celebrated Hank's and my Dec. birthdays. (I think that was my last birthday celebration).

Josie didn't stay at the dinner table too long and preferred watching a video
Gaylynne "made" me post the picture of myself.
Notice the pretty runner my parents gave me for Christmas. Bought the orange material at the fabric store the day before.

Fanci-free Fridays 1/6 & 1/13

Fri 1/6 we started back at My Gym but this time with the bigger kids 23 months to I'm not sure what. Big difference not being with the "babies" anymore. After class we went to the library and found some books. "Josephine Wants to Dance" is really cute.

Josie dancing like "Josephine". She's wearing the PJ's that Grandma made.

After nap time we got dressed up and went out to dinner with Grandma and Grandpa Rich to CreoLa in San Carlos to celebrate my belated birthday. Delicious food. Unfortunately we didn't document the evening with pictures.

Before going to My Gym on 1/13 I braided Josie's hair. I'm not so great with making a straight part but she looks so cute anyway.

Josie continues to love the balls.

A few videos of Josie's fun at My Gym

This week after gym our excursion was to TJ's. Josie wanted to hold everything. Such a good helper. We both love trying the samples.

Josie's new kitchen

I found a cute kitchen in great shape at a garage sale in San Carlos. We saved it to give it to Josie for Christmas. She loves to cook. It came with some food and we already had some food that came with her pots and pans so she is well stocked. She also got a grocery store cash register that comes with a food scanner and conveyor belt so she's all set to buy food when she runs out.

Tea set from Gram and Papa. Enjoying tea with Charlotte and Lion.

6th and final post of vacation: trip home

We were in West Hartford for one week and flew home on New Years Eve. Our original flight was from Hartford to Newark, NJ with a 3 hr layover and then a straight fight to SFO. We really wanted a shorter layover and one that was midway like Chicago. We called the day before to check about changing flights but it was $300 per ticket. We kept our original flights. Just as we were boarding they called our names and asked if we wanted to volunteer to be bumped. I immediately said yes. We didn't check any bags so they bumped us to a flight leaving 45 minute later (long enough to get to the next gate and for Eric to get food), the layover was 2 hrs in Chicago, (long enough for Josie to play in the really fun children's play area and for us to eat dinner), and they paid us $150 each for our next flight. We were so thankful for that incredible blessing. After dinner in Chicago just before we boarded Josie fell asleep and slept for 3 hrs.

Josie didn't always want to be carried in the snuggli after being cooped up on our laps for hours on end. We got a few laughs as we walked through the airport.

Pepparkakor

Also know as Peppar (named after a Swedish cookie). Such a cute puppy new to their family. Josie had a love hate relationship with Peppar. Peppar loved her toes and often tried to lick her face. Josie practiced saying "down peppar" but she usually needed someone to come to her rescue.

Celebrating with food

We had no shortage of good food and we all took turns preparing the meals.

Eric and Miller made some delicious pizzas
